About

Welcome to our class blog site! You are almost ready to begin setting up your site and blogging regularly. Today you are going to write an introduction to yourself. This is going to be in the form of a page on the blog and called the “About” section. Before you begin, you’re going to write it out on paper and we will edit/revise it so that your first post is fantastic.

Before I lay out the assignment, let me give you an introduction to myself.

My name is Mr. Forbes. I was born in Iowa, but when I was three years old my family moved to St. Lawrence Island in Alaska. Both of my parents were teachers, and they taught on the island for three years. Then my family moved back to Iowa and my dad became a farmer. I grew up sorting pigs and driving tractors, but if I’m really honest I worked harder at watching sports on t.v. than I did helping on the farm.

Alaska is the best.
Alaska is the best.

I also love being a teacher. Truly, it’s the best job in the world. I taught high school for 5  years before coming to Begich 3 years ago, and I think this might be the coolest school in  Anchorage. Teenagers can be tough to work with, but I love the challenge and appreciate  their energy and candor. I especially get to see this in their blogs, which makes blogging the  best elective you could possibly take. It’s a fact.

Now it’s your turn. Tell me (and the class) about yourself. Things you could include are a brief bio of where you’ve lived, your family, your hobbies and interests, or anything else that you think would be important to include that will help the class understand you better!

  1. Hey, Mr. Forbes
I loved your “About Me” log, it tells me about your life and what you love. I’ve never been to Iowa myself, but what’s Iowa like?

    ~aberiana

    1. Aberiana,

Thanks for the comment. Iowa is very different than Alaska. It’s flat and most of the ground is farmed. It’s actually perfect for farming (it has really good soil), and the state produces a lot of food for the entire world.

    2. mr Forbes,

I liked your about page. It tells me a lot about u and war u like to do. I’ve never been to Iowa i’ve wanted to see what its like. Ever plan to go back like for a vacation or somewhere else.

    1. Alycia,

Iowa is very different than Alaska. It’s flat and most of the ground is farmed. It’s actually perfect for farming (it has really good soil), and the state produces a lot of food for the entire world.

  2. Mr. Forbs,
I like the fish you caught. My little sister caught a fish as big as that one before and she was only 7. But she needed help reeling it in. Was it fun having a farm with a bunch of chores when you were in Iowa.

    1. Kieara,

That’s an impressive feat by your sister. It was fun having chores on the farm. It wasn’t fun when I was a kid, but looking back on it as an adult it was a pretty cool experience.

  3. Hello Mr. Forbes,
I loved your “about” page, when I/we read read the “about” page I had a question. How many pictures ca you have on your “about” page?
    Thanks.

    1. Madison,

The great thing about your personal blog is that there are not a lot of limits on what you can do. We will discuss early next week about how we go about using pictures on the blog, but after that you are free to put pictures up.

  4. Mr. Forbes,
Your about me blog was great. I think that it’s great that u sorta helped with the farm, all kids have to watch sports thought so your dad couldn’t of gotten mad at you. Why did you decide to stay in Alaska?

    1. Aryel,

My dad also loves sports, so I don’t think he got upset at me. I moved back up to Alaska because I love the outdoors. Alaska makes me feel alive!

  5. Mr. Forbes,
Great blog post! It would be pretty cool to live on a farm. I’m happy you like being a teacher. I agree that blogging is the best elective you could take. What is it like to live in Iowa?

    1. Neve,

Thanks for the comment. Iowa was a great place to grow up. It’s very different from Alaska because there are no mountains and it’s relatively flat. However, the people of Iowa are some of the nicest people I’ve met, so that makes it a great place to live.

  6. Dear Mr. Forbes,
I like how you’re honest and don’t lie about your past. Also that big red salmon is extremely huge. In your childhood, did your family raised other animals beside pigs?

    1. Pang,

We did. We had sheep, chickens, cows, and even a goat at one point. Mostly though, we made our living raising pigs. Our farm always smelled pretty terrible.

    1. Sean,

I guess what I meant was that I just wasn’t that into the farm. Some kids grow up and love working on the farm with their family, but I never did. Looking back I wished I would have helped more because I could have learned a lot from my dad.

  7. Dear Mr.Forbes,
I really love that picture of you holding that big fish. I went fishing before out in Wasilla and I caught an Orange Rock Fish. Did you know when you take rock fish out of water there eyes pop out of there sockets? Do you think you can post more pictures of you with fish? I think there really cool.

    1. Destiny,

Awesome job on the rockfish. I’ve never caught one, but I’ve heard about them puffing up when they come out of the water because of the change of pressure. Strange! I will certainly try to post more pictures if you want them.

  8. Mr.Forbes,

The fish you caught was huge, great job! I’ve never been fishing, but it looks fun. It’s interesting how you’ve lived on a farm. Why didn’t you want to become a farmer? Did you always want to be a teacher?

    1. Sofia,

I don’t think I was cut out to be a farmer. I always enjoyed school, and I think being a teacher is the perfect job for me. Maybe some day I’ll live somewhere where I can have some horses or cows, but I just don’t think the farmer life was meant for me.

  9. Hey Mr.Forbes,

I really do enjoy reading your blog. When I read your blog, I can see that you are a hard
working man and you haves faced some difficult challenges. I was just wondering what is one difficult moment that you had when you are teaching?

    1. Frieda,

Wow, another great question being asked. The most difficult moment…hmmm…my first year teaching I taught high school seniors. They were 18 years old and I was only 22, so I really wasn’t much older than them. That was certainly difficult and a little bit nerve racking, but in the end it turned out to be great. Good question!

  10. Mr. Forbes,

It’s amazing how you have been teaching for eight years and think that it’s the coolest thing. I can understand that teenagers can be hard to work with. But it’s nice how you took the time to work with them and made them smarter. Was living in Iowa fun and awesome? Have anyone of you guys been in Iowa before an enjoyed being there?

    1. Mai Doua,

Great comment. Living in Iowa was a lot of fun. It’s very different than Alaska. I’m curious to see what people say about your second question: who has been to Iowa?

  11. Mr.Forbes,
Thank you for introducing yourself I’m very glad to know you. It’s great to know you better and more about you. It’s amazing how you got to lived in the farm. What is your favorite place to live the most?

    1. Lou,

Wow, what a great question. I think that I would have to say Anchorage is my favorite place that I have lived so far. I just love it here so much, but I also liked growing up in Iowa. Both are great. How about you?

  12. Mr.Forbes,

That was pretty cool for a teacher, and i never see that big fish before,That was amazing. When did you started fishing, who taught you how to fish?do you go fishing with your wife?

    1. Rita,

Great questions! I learned how to fish with one of my friends up here. We kept going over and over until we started to figure out how to do it. My wife started fishing last year, and now she is wanting to go more and more. I think she’s getting hooked (hahaha – what a great joke!).

  13. Mr.Forbes,

I Liked your about page. What was it like working on a farm?
I have seen lots of farms in places that i have traveled.
what is it like in Iowa.?

    1. Jocelyn,

Thanks for the comment. It was fun growing up on a farm. I got to do all sorts of things that most kids didn’t, like driving tractors, sorting pigs, and being in a combine. Iowa is full of farms because it’s very flat and has really good soil. There are some farms out in Palmer. Have you ever been out there?

      1. Mr. Forbes

        Thanks for answering my question:)
yes i have been out in palmer and i have seen those farms out there. They are really huge. Has anyone else seen the farms in palmer?

    1. Maria,

Thanks for the comment. Iowa is great. It’s very different from Alaska because it’s pretty flat. A lot of the land is used for farming. I think it’s beautiful in its own way. I like fishing because it allows me to be out in nature while also being active. Also, there’s nothing more exciting than having a fish on the end of your line.

  14. Mr.Forbes
Great blog post. When I saw you holding that king salmon I was amazed. because I don’t think I can ever catch a king and i go fishing a lot.I think catching king’s seem fun,was it?

    1. Cyrus,

It was incredibly fun! I caught it on a fly rod, which in my opinion is a little more difficult than a regular rod. It took me about 20 minutes to land it. I dream about catching fish like that all the time; this summer I made it a reality.

  15. Mr. Forbes,

I really like your about page and the fish you caught.I really like how much you traveled. I traveled too but only when I was a kid and I really don’t remember any of them.Mr. Forbes did you have a job before becoming a teacher.

    1. Nouchia,

I love to travel! This summer my wife and I went to Europe for 30 days. As far as jobs go, my first job was working at my high school. I mowed the high school lawn and I helped clean the school in the summer. It was a great job. Some days I miss sitting on the mower all day long.

  16. Hey Mr. Forbes

I love to go out doors and do all sorts of things. But fishing, not really. I can do it for like fifteen minuets, but after that i give up. My older brother is obsessed with fishing. He will go before school and after. I like learning about fish, swimming with fish and taking pictures, but i don’t like to fish.

    Karla James

    1. Karla,

I could fish every day all day long. For some reason I never get tired of fishing, so I think I can understand your brother a little bit better. I like that you say you like to learn about fish; they are a fascinating species without a doubt.

  17. Mr. Forbes,
I like your picture, I like how you hold the big fish. I have been fishing before . I went fishing in Wasilla before. Mr.Forbes were did you go to catch the big cool fish with little black dots.

  18. Dear Mr.Forbes
I Really liked your About page and what was the name of the high school you taught?, I think that being a farmer is cool because you get to feed chickens and do other stuff that you do almost every morning

    Tima.maseuli

  19. Hey Mr. Forbes!
I loved your introduction. It was well written and you had some cool pictures to go along with it! I have a question. What is your favorite and least favorite part of being a teacher?
    -Dagny

    1. Dagny,

Great questions. Best part is the students. No joke. Every day I’m entertained by students. They give me energy to do my job. The worst part is probably grading. I really just don’t enjoy it and it can be cumbersome. Otherwise, it’s the best job in the world.

  20. Mr Forbes,
Why do you like being a teacher so much Is it because of the breaks or do you just like teaching? If I was a teacher I would look forward to summer vacation because it is awesome.

    1. Iain,

You have some inside information on teachers. Summer break is pretty awesome, but I’m not joking when I say that I truly love my job. It’s exciting and every day is different, and I really enjoy interacting with teenagers.

  21. Mr.Forbes, I liked your “Introduction to me” post. I like how you added how long you have taught as a teacher. why were you more in to watching sports than helping out the family?

    1. Samantha,

I think I just never caught on with the farm work attitude. My cousins love to farm, but it was never my thing. I mostly just wanted to play sports.

  22. MR.Forbes ,I liked your page about your life and i liked how you really tell details about your self. I have 1 question about you, How much siblings do you have?

  23. Mr.Forbes,

I like your post . Where did you live when u started blogging ? Also when did you get the idea of making a Blog class for Begich Middle School

    1. Luke,

I got the idea when I needed to come up with an elective. I have been writing my own blog for about 6 years now, and I thought it would be fun to share with students.

  24. Mr.Forbes
I enjoyed reading About you page. I love how you talk about the this you like and did in your past. How long have you been living and work on your farm?

  25. Mr.Forbes,
I loved reading your blog it was interesting how your dad became a farmer rite after he was a teacher. I also like the picture you put up i like to fish to. wheres your favorite place to fish at?

    1. Pachia,

The fish was extremely heavy. It was hard for me to lift up.

Iowa is very flat and Alaska is full of mountains. The geography is extremely different, but they both have great people.

  26. Mr.Forbes
I really enjoyed reading your blog. It’s messed up how you were watching sports while your dad was farming, just kidding. Hope you can stay at begich and don’t leave.

  27. Mr.Forbes,
I really enjoyed learning more about you in you your post. I do agree with you when you said teenagers can be tough ,because we can get really tough to work with at time but thats why people love us teens. I have one question, Is Iowa better than Anchorage Alaska?!

    1. Celeste,

Iowa and Alaska are very different and they both have their positives. Iowa is where I’m from and my family is, so I’m proud to call it home. However, Alaska is such an awesome place to live and is perfect for all of the things that I love. I call it a toss up.

  28. Mr.Forbes,
I really enjoyed reading your about page.In my opinion I think you told your story well.Which is better, teaching high school or teaching middle school? How long would you want to teach at that school?

    1. Joseph,

Good question: they’re both different. I liked high school for various reasons, but there were also some downfalls. In the end, I think I’m a better middle school teacher than I am high school. It’s fun working with this age group.

  29. Howdy Mr. Forbes,

Thank you for the helpful experience of making a blog and telling us about. Your fishing trips I just have a couple questions like : Why do you like fishing ,who got you into fishing ,where is the most common place you go fishing at ,and finally what is the best fish that you caught in the past two years ?

    1. Joshua,

Great questions. I’ll try to answer them. I love fishing because it’s such a pure sport: just you, the water, and the fish. I got into fishing with a good friend of mine. We both decided we just wanted to do it, so we did. I go to the Kenai the most because they have the biggest rainbow trout (maybe in the world!). The best fish I caught the past two years is probably the king salmon in the picture on the blog. It was just so big and fought like crazy!

  30. Mr. Forbes,

I like reading your about page. Your sounding like you are having fun makes me think that I should be more active. So dear Mr. Forbes thank you for expressing about yourself for us to understand you. Thank you. (*v*)

  31. Mr.Forbes
Thats a nice picture of you holding the salmon i used to go fishing with my grandpa a lot.Your family moves a lot.what is it like in st. lawrence island I bet it really cool.Ive only been to San Diego,Seatle,Los angles I want to travel a lot more.

    1. Adrian,

St. Lawrence Island was very unique. It’s extremely isolated and really close to Russia. I have some great memories from living there. Traveling is great; I hope you get to do more of it.

    1. Connor,

Thanks for the comment. Make sure you include a greeting before you start. I love fishing because it’s a sport that combines peacefulness with adrenaline. You are standing in a river and it’s quiet and calm and then suddenly a fish hits your fly and it’s game on. It’s the perfect combination.

    1. Nyekuar,

I wasn’t home schooled. My mom was a teacher, but I went to the public school. I have two younger brothers and one older sister. Thanks for the comment!

  32. Mr . Forbes

I loved your “about” Page , I liked learning “about you”. I was also Born in Iowa myself, but I have a question for you what was your favorite part about Iowa?

    1. Thanks Dak,

My favorite part about Iowa is the fact that my family is still there. I love going to visit them, and I love that it always feels like home. How long did you live in Iowa?

  33. Mr. Forbes,
I enjoyed reading your blog post; it was very helpful and informative. I’ve never been to St. Lawrence Island, what’s it like?
    Rhiannon.

    1. Rhiannon,

It’s very isolated because it’s way out there. It can get some very harsh weather conditions, but it’s completely unique. I wouldn’t trade my experience of living there for anything.

    1. Sebastian,

I don’t have a son, so easy answer is no. If I did, I would let him be whatever he wants to be, and hopefully that means he becomes a millionaire and takes care of me.

  34. Dear Mr. Forbes,
I think you’re blog is interesting. I have never left state but will soon. Anyway where is your favorite place?

    -Cherish Mason

    1. Jaclynn,

I’m glad you’re in this class now. Good question. It’s very flat and mostly farm land. The soil is perfect for growing different crops, so that’s what it’s used for. It’s pretty much the opposite of Alaska.

  35. hey MR.Forbes, i liked your about page I’ve never been fishing or camping can you tell me some good spots to fish or camp at have you ever been camping witch one do you like better ?

    1. Devin,

I enjoy them both, and my favorite thing to do is to combine fishing and camping. I can’t tell you my good spots because every fisherman knows not to reveal his favorite spots.

  36. Mr. Forbes
You have lived an interesting life. I never really liked fishing because I was to weak to pull the fish out of the water. My favorite fish is an Arapaima, what is your favorite fish.

    1. Chee,

Great question and interesting fish; I’ve never heard of it. My favorite is without a doubt the rainbow trout. It’s the best fish out there for fishing purposes.

    1. Thok,

Good question. It’s very flat and mostly farm land. The soil is perfect for growing different crops, so that’s what it’s used for. It’s pretty much the opposite of Alaska.

  37. Mr Forbes
I enjoyed reading your about page.I myself don’t like fishing that much but my family does.Last year me and my family went fishing and my dad got a fish just as big as yours. What are some other fish you got?

    1. Francis,

I love hearing stories of big fish. It gets me super excited. At this point, I’ve caught too many fish to remember, but there are a few that will always stick with me. The one in the picture is definitely an example.

  38. Dear Mr.Forbes, i really like your blog i go fishing but not a lot when my family wants to go i do.I agree being quiet don’t makes you less smart because it means you are more focused then others.Do you think teachers grade on participation or work turned in.

    1. Rayden,

I taught at Service for one year and Bartlett for three years. As far as comparing the high schools, I think they were pretty similar. I don’t think I liked one better than the other. Out of the three schools I’ve taught at in Anchorage, I like Begich the best. There is just something about this place.

  39. Mr. Forbes,
I really enjoyed reading your “about” page, I remember it a little bit differently from the long time I was in your class but generally it still has the same details I liked before. Did you change your “about” page at all from the last time I was here? Or has it just been a while?

    kappa

  40. Mr. forbes,

I enjoyed reading your “About Me” Introduction, It is really neat. What is it like living in Iowa? Do you enjoy living there?

    1. Darren,

Iowa was a fun place to grow up. I lived on a farm and got to have all sorts of adventures with animals. I raised pigs, calves, sheep, chickens, and even a goat for a little while. That type of stuff is fun when you’re a little kid.

    1. Javen,

Great question. They’re very different places. Iowa is extremely flat and mostly used for farming. Alaska is obviously a pristine wilderness with mountains (and very little area for farming). My family is in Iowa, so I like that part of it, but Alaska is an incredible place. I don’t think I can make a choice between them. What about you: Hawaii or Alaska?

  41. Mr. Forbes,
I like to fish too. I caught my first fish last year but it was a trout. How in Gods name did you manage to catch a fish that big!? My fish was like a mid day snack. Yours is enough for a week! Although, my fish was delicious, and including the other 8 fish that my dad, and my brother caught, it was 2 days worth of food.
    from, Christine O.

    1. Christine,

Hahaha! That fish took me quite awhile to land, especially since I was using an 8 weight fly rod. My friends helped me out landing it. We didn’t eat it because it was on a float trip, so we just let him go back to the water.

  42. ᕮᵔ人ᵔᕭ Dear mr. Forbes
I enjoyed reading about your life and accomplishments. You said that you taught high school students for five years, why did you decide to teach middle school instead?
    -ravyn ᕮᵔ人ᵔᕭ

    1. Ravyn,

I moved to middle school because I was curious. I had only ever been in high schools and I wanted to see what it was like. In the end, I think it was the right move for me. I enjoy being around middle schoolers every day. I also liked high school, but MS just seems like a better fit.

    1. Damion,

Thanks. I taught at Service HS for one year and Bartlett HS for three years. I also taught for one year at a HS in Philadelphia.

  43. Hi Mr. Forbes

I liked the about page. I’ve gone fishing once or twice but usually don’t sadly. The picture with the fish was cool. Whats your favorite part of fishing.

    1. Logan,

My favorite part is just being in nature. I love standing in rivers and how peaceful it is. At the same time, that moment a fish takes your fly is an adrenaline rush that is hard to beat.

    1. Gabe,

Fishing (and for me it’s all about fly fishing) is only the greatest sport one could ever participate in. It’s like the best of being in nature and competing. It’s man v fish and there can be only one winner. I love it.

  44. Hey Mr.Forbes

I really like your about page. How long did it take you to catch that fish in your hands? This summer I’m going to fish for salmon because I’m still getting used of catching fish. This will be my second time going fishing this year. Also my brother from Las vegas is coming up to go fishing and camping so it will be a great experience for him. Any river do you prefer me going to go fish?

    1. Julian,

I would tell you where you should go to fish, but then I would be giving away my secret fishing hole locations. One important rule of fishing: never reveal your favorite fishing spots or else they will be taken. In fact, I’m going to encourage you not to fish so that there are less people not the river and more fish for me. They’re probably aren’t any fish in the rivers anyway. You should stay home and watch Netflix with your brother.

But…if I was going to take somebody fishing, there’s not better place than the Kenai River.

  45. Mr. Forbes,

What did you like about catching that fish? Also why did you stop teaching High school and go and teach Middle school instead?,

    Jonathan

  46. Dear, Mr.Forbes
I really enjoy reading your Introduction to Me. I know that teaching at the first time is hard but when you get used to it then it’s not hard and it’s easy. What are 5 things that you taught on the first year teaching?,

    -Siaohonglor

    1. Siaohong,

What a question! I don’t think I can remember that far back. I do know that I taught Hamlet (a Shakespeare play) my first year teaching. It was fun and a big challenge.

  47. Mr. Forbes,

Nice blog “about me”. That’s cool how you were a farmer back then. I just have two questions (number one) what’s Iowa like? (Number two) Why did you move to Alaska?

    1. Zach,

You can read some of my other replies for what Iowa is like. The Alaska question is a good one: I think I just wanted an adventure. I love being outside in nature and Alaska was a perfect fit for me. It will be hard to ever leave it.

  48. Mr.Forbes

I really liked your about page.It is really cool because you caught a big fish it is even bigger than my moms fish she caught a fish and it was big,but yours is way bigger.I would like to see more pictures of you catching some more fish.Mr.Forbes how long did it take to catch that fish.

    -Angela Iakopo

  49. Dear MR.Forbes i love your blog i used to go fishing with my grandparents and i used to catch fish but not as big as the one you got.fishing was relaxing to me and when i was bored i would just go to the lake and fish.I have one question was working on the farm fun.

  50. Mr. Forbes,

Nice post. It is really cool that you caught a fish that big. That fish is bigger than any fish i ever caught. How long does a person have to be in college to be a social studies teacher?

    -Anthony🐙

    1. Anthony,

Great question. I went to college for 4 years, which is pretty normal to get a bachelor’s degree and then teach. I am currently taking classes to work on my master’s degree in history, but that is not something that is required.

  51. Mr. Forbes,
I loved how you told us or (everyone) What your interested in. Why did you like to go fishing if you like watching sports then farming? Just one more thing, are you happy to where you are now? And if your parents aren’t teachers where would you be now?
    -Reno

    1. Reno,

Thanks. Good question about my parents and my career choice. I think that if my parents weren’t teachers, I would have become a teacher anyway. I really like the job and enjoy coming to work every day.

  52. Mr.Forbes , I like your about me page. I think its cool that both of your parents are teachers. Is that why you wanted to be a teacher? where your parents ever your teacher ?

  53. hey Mr.Forbes,

i really like your “about me” comment and it’s so weird how it’s just flat down there, we both like to fish, and the one you caught was very big. how much did that salmon weigh

  54. Mr. Forbes,

I really enjoy reading about your about blog, it was exciting, I’ve had a friend who was also born there, and he said it was boring to him. Is whale fat good? Did you had to eat whale fat all the time since you were over there? what was it like?

  55. Dear Mr.Forbes
I liked your blog about how you like fishing.I fished last summer it was fun and i was on a boat. How long did you work and live in your parents farm i bet it was tough.

  56. Dear mr forbes,I read your blog about living in lowa then family moved to alaksa. your mom dad were teachers then you became a teacher, too! What inspirsed you to be a teacher.

  57. Hey, Mr. Forbes,
I enjoyed your blog about how much you love fishing. I have to say I agree on your opinion fishing is very fun and entertaining to watch someone catch a fish. Fish are very slimy and slippery creatures. Dip neting is very fun thats one of the things i like to do with my family. What is your favorite type of fishing?

  58. Mr.Forbes,
Great blog on “About me” blog, it tells us alot about your family and what you like. What made you decide why you choose being a teacher? How was it like on the farm?

  59. Mr.Forbes

how are doing? I read your blog. And it’s cot that you got to catch a really big king salmon. I have never caught a fish in my life. Do you like to eat fish?
    Lillian

  60. Mr.forbes,
I really enjoyed reading you All about me page,It was really cool about you like fishing i never went before,Did you ever catch any other fish than salmon like catfish?

  61. Mr. Forbes,
Your ” Introduction to me” was good. I do agreed with you when you say you work harder at watching sports than helping. I’m also the same. Is it really hard helping on the farm?

    1. Anna,

Sports are great. Farm work can be tough, but it can also be fun. I think some people are born to farm, and they love everything about it so it doesn’t feel hard. I wasn’t like that.

  62. Mr.Forbes,
I really enjoy reading your “about” page. I like how you caught a king salmon. It’s fun reading about you. Great blog, it tells me a lot about you and I learn a lot about you now. The “about” page Page tells me how you live and what kind of stuff you do.

  63. Mr.Forbes,

Your “about me” page was very fascinating. I like how positive your tone and words are. I also like the fishing picture that you provided. Is fishing as hard as it sounds?

    1. Sharissa,

Fishing is only hard if you are a person who gets stressed out by not catching fish. Some times the fish just aren’t biting. I love the whole process of fishing, and it’s an extremely peaceful hobby for me.

    1. Nou,

Iowa is a special place. It’s farm country, so it’s very flat and has great soil for growing things. It’s in the middle of the country, so there aren’t any oceans, but I did live close to the Mississippi River.

  64. Mr.Forbes, I loved your “About” blog. It tells me a lot about you. I’ve read that you have been farming in Iowa. It’s really cool that you taught high schoolers befor you came to Begich. My question is, What school did you teach before coming to Begich?

    1. Joyleena,

Thanks for the comment. I taught at Service for one year and Bartlett for 3 years. Before coming to Alaska, I taught at a high school in Philadelphia for part of a year.

  65. Mr. Forbes
I loved your “About Me” blog. I thought it was really nice. You taught high school for 5 years, That’s a long time. What was the schools name you taught at ?

    1. Destiny,

I taught at Service for one year and Bartlett for 3 years. Before coming to Alaska, I taught at a high school in Philadelphia for part of a year.

  66. Hey, Mr.Forbes,
I love your “about me” introduction. I like that you became a teacher like your parents. Why did you want to become a teacher?
    *-* Ashley *-*

    1. Ashley,

Thanks for the comment. I guess I became a teacher because I realized that I enjoyed being around students, I love learning, and it was something that I would be happy to go do every morning when I woke up.

    1. Solomon,

Great question. I do miss my hometown some times. I don’t think I would ever move back there, but it’s a special place to me. My parents and a lot of my extended family still live there, and I miss seeing them regularly.

  67. Hey Mr.Forbes,
I like your ”about”me blog.it tells me more about your life and how hard it was teaching teenagers. one more thing: what is Iowa like?

    1. Kaleb,

We need to fix your name on here. Talk to me on Monday and let’s take care of this. Iowa is farm country: very flat, hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s very different than Alaska, but cool in its own way.

  68. I enjoyed reading your blog Mr.Forbes. I also enjoy fishing too and your life is quite interesting. Have you ever caught a salmon with your bare hands (it’s quite annoying). Your blog tells me what you enjoy and what you might not enjoy as much.

  69. Mr. Forbes,
Very amazing writing or typing skills you have. It is very graceful, pulling others attention to it. Anyway, I have a question, why do you like fishing and how big was it?

    1. Pornnapa,

Thanks for the comment. I love to fish because it combines so many things I love: nature, beauty, and competition. Fly fishing is the perfect form of art.

  70. Mr. Forbes,

Your site is pretty cool and I think that its pretty awesome that you lived in Iowa. Ive never been to Iowa, I’ve heard a lot about it and it seems pretty fun there. Did you enjoy it there or do you like Alaska better? 😊

  71. mr. Forbes,
Nice about page! I actually go fishing a lot, too. I go dip netting on Kenai river with my uncle and aunt. How big was the biggest fish you caught?

  72. Mr.Forbes
I’m very impressed that you caught a king salmon that big. I wish I could catch a salmon like that. How was fly fishing? I bet it was fun. How long did it take to catch it , and how much did it weigh?
    –Kennedy T

    1. Kennedy,

I’m not sure on the weight because we were out on the river. And fly fishing is absolutely the best. It’s my favorite activity by far.

  73. Mr. Forbes,
I enjoyed your introduction about yourself. I thought that it was really interesting. I do have a question though. How was it in Iowa?

  74. Mr. Forbes

  76. Mr. Forbes,
I enjoyed reading your about page. You did a great job creating one. I totally agree that teenagers can be tough to work with sometimes. I think the teenagers that are hard to work with are the comfortable and loud ones. What do you think about them?

  77. Mr.Forbes
Nice about page, thats sounds fun for your first years here in Alaska.I like to go fishing too,out in Kenai. Did like other schools or Begich better?

  78. Mr. Forbes,
That fish is awesome. I remember one time my family and I caught a King Salmon. It was cool that you grew up farming. I lived on a farm for a long time. We had chickens, a pig, two horses, five sheep, two cows, and a house trains pigmy goat. What other animals did you have?

  79. Mr. Forbes, your blog is fascinating! Your fishing skills are impressive. Your life must of been great. One question i have is, what did you do with the king you caught?

  80. Mr. Forbes.
Wow, that sounds amazing I’ve always had a passion of working on a farm again like i was when i was 6, my whole family did it ever since i was born. i really do like your “About Me” and how you went to Iowa. Was it fun to live in Iowa? Do you miss it at all? I used to live in Nebraska for a year cause thats where most of my family is and i really enjoyed it. I ask if you miss Iowa cause i miss being in Nebraska even if I wasn’t there for long. Thank you for the very Descriptive About Me.
    Valencia.

  81. Mr. Forbes,

    -Sebella Sheppard

  88. Mr. Forbes,
