Mr. Forbes’s Travel Blog

Two summers ago my wife and I took a vacation to Europe. We planned to spend 30 days there because we both turned 30 that year. We also were celebrating the fact that my wife finished her Master’s degree.

The first two weeks were spent in Italy. If you want to truly go some place magical, then you must go to Italy. Everything about it was spectacular. First and foremost, the food was unbelievable. Every meal we ate was absolutely exquisite. Italians know good food, and they’re not afraid to let you know what isn’t good food. Everything they serve is local and fresh, and slowing down to appreciate the quality is part of the lifestyle. My wife and I can still remember almost every meal we ate while there.

Secondly, the place is filled with history. We spent time at the Colosseum in Rome, looking at art by Michelangelo, and gliding through the canals of Venice in a gondola. It was incredible to be in places from history books, like seeing where Julius Caesar was stabbed in the back by Brutus. It seemed like everywhere we turned, we were in the middle of some sort of fascinating history.

Finally, the Italian countryside is gorgeous. We biked through rolling hills with vineyards that have been in operation for a thousand years or more. We spent time on the beach looking out at the Adriatic Sea. We watched the sun set over Florence, and listened to orchestra’s play in St. Mark’s Square.

If you ever get the chance, you must visit Italy some day. You will not regret nor ever forget it.
